Lent 2012
As we enter the season of Lent, we begin a period of reflection on “church words” that we have heard and spoken all of our lives (Savior, Shepherd, Lord, Bread of Life, King); all of these words speak of Jesus.
What do these words mean to each of us personally? More importantly, how do we share them with those of no church background, so that they become meaningful to them also?
The idea for this series was shared with the Worship Enhancement Team by Steve Jolley, who continues to work with us and with Dr. Hendrix to define these terms in music, drama, video, and visual art. It is our hope that through these five Sundays of Old Words, New Understandings, these names and descriptions of Christ will come alive for you in deeper understanding.
On Sunday, February 26, we will consider Jesus as “Shepherd”; on March 4, we will consider Jesus as the “Bread of Life” and share together in the Lord’s Supper.
During our Ash Wednesday service on February 22, nails will be given out for you to carry with you during Lent as a reminder of Jesus’ love and grace for you. We will bring our nails with us to the Maundy Thursday service on April 5, and nail them to a crosspiece in the courtyard as we remember Jesus’ last hours. Then, as a joyful act of celebration, we will bring fresh flowers to lay on the crosspiece on Easter Sunday morning as we rejoice in the resurrection.
InnerChange
Our next InnerChange service is set for March 3 at 5:45 p.m. in the sanctuary. The Bissettes will lead the music and Rick Jordan’s message will be “Talk is Not Cheap”. Come experience this new thing with us on the 1st and 3rd Saturday evenings of each month.
Photography Begins
Photography for our new pictorial directory begins Tuesday, February 21. Take the elevator to the second floor of the Fellowship Hall building for your appointment. A hostess will greet and guide you from there. We are excited about getting this new updated resource for our membership. There is still time to schedule an appointment through Olan Mills (1-800-866-2263).
